Bike Mechanic at Cal Coast Adventures

We are a high end rental and tour business in Santa Barbara. We have a lot of bikes to maintain and tune on a constant basis. Our bikes range from high end road/mountain/electric bikes down to single and multi-speed cruisers. We're looking for a full time bike mechanic to help maintain this fleet as well as help with rentals in the store. If the mechanic has the personality for it and would like to do some guiding we also lead tours however this isn’t a requirement. The mechanic will help maintain our fleet of road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrids, ebikes and beach cruisers. We're only accepting applicants with prior bike shop experience; must have at least 2 years experience in a shop.

You would be working at the shop the majority of the time and offsite at our clients' and partners locations on occasion. You will be asked to deliver and pick up bikes when renters have requested this service. If you ride a bit and want to help lead tours you’ll be on those when needed.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Experience working on high-end road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrids, e-bikes, and cruisers
  • Friendly and upbeat personality
  • Ability to interact professionally with clients
  • Flexibility- readiness to shift from working on a project to helping clients
  • Collaborate with team members to accomplish tasks and set clients up on their rentals
  • Good driving record
  • Task-oriented, ability to work autonomously when needed

Proficient with:

  • Electronic shifting systems
  • Brake bleeding (hydraulic and/or mechanical)
  • Full bike builds
  • Electric bike maintenance
  • Replacing parts
  • Recommending bikes to clients and knowledge of bike fit basics

If you ride a little that's a benefit but not a requirement. We do tours on road and mountain bikes; to do those you'll need to be on the more advanced side. We also do city tours and electric bike tours and those you just need a friendly demeanor and interest in guiding-we'll train you on the rest. Being able to recommend routes to clients (road and mountain) is beneficial, but if you are unfamiliar with local riding options we can make this a part of training.

The pay for this position will range from $22-$24 / hr depending on your experience. Ideally the individual will be available 4 to 5 days a week. If interested in leading tours as well you can expect some tips on top of hourly. You can expect to earn tips from some rental clients as well. We are interviewing now through end of May with the position starting in June.

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
