DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

As a Nurse Aide, you will provide non-professional nursing care to the residents at Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center. You will contribute to the residents’ plans of care by participating in team meetings to discuss treatment plans and methods to approach resident-specific goals. In this position, you will assist residents, in accordance with the plan of care, to perform activities of daily living. You can expect to participate in and complete Restorative Nursing Programs, distribute meals, apply safety devices, and both gather and report pertinent data such as vital signs. Additionally, you will collect specimens as needed such as urine, feces, or sputum.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

  • Full-time employment
  • Positions are available on the following shifts, with a 30-minute lunch break. You will work rotating days, including weekends and holidays. You will be required to work every other weekend.
    • 2nd shift: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM
    • 3rd shift: 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • DMVA is pleased to announce the launch of a Nursing Referral Program, promoting the hiring and retention of nursing staff at Pennsylvania’s veterans homes. Under this program, both referring employees and referred candidates may be eligible for payments of up to $4,000.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.


 

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


 

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
