TEACHER OF THE DEAF  
One - 1.0 Replacement position -Technological Studies Teacher
Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf – Secondary

Position is available immediately until August 31, 2025 
(with possibility of extension September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2026)

(Contracts rated under the Provincial Schools Authority)

The following position is available immediately:

• Competition #: PDSB25-045:  Teacher of the Deaf, 1.0 Replacement position, Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf, Secondary program, Milton
• NOTE:  PDSB is currently inviting applications from OCT qualified teachers who are interested and willing to obtain the Deaf Specialist. Less than ASL fluency required for the position may be supported with an ASL/English Interpreter in the classroom while the successful candidate becomes fluent in ASL.  
• Position is available for the 2025/2026 school year (with possibility of extension).  Technological studies teachers in the following disciplines may apply:

 Communications Technology
 Computer Technology
 Green Industries
 Hairstyling/Aesthetics
 Hospitality
 Manufacturing Technology
 Technological Design
 Transportation Technology
 Construction Technology

What we are looking for:

Qualifications:

• Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers;
• Deaf Specialist/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf Specialist or currently engaged in completing the requirements for the specialist qualification; NOTE:  PDSB will consider teacher candidates who are currently engaged in completing the requirements for the specialist qualification and/or who express a willingness to obtain);
• Technological Studies required;
• Intermediate qualifications (7-8 / 9-10) and/or;
• Senior Division qualifications (11-12) recommended.

Abilities:

• Demonstrated experience teaching Deaf/hard of hearing students in academic programs and programs for students with multiple exceptionalities;
• Ability to develop and modify lesson plans, and to create IEP’s to effectively teach Deaf students;
• An in-depth knowledge of the principles of teaching Deaf students;
• Ability to effectively manage a classroom and students using a variety of behavioural management strategies;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL); (NOTE:  PDSB will consider teacher candidates who express a willingness to obtain ASL language fluency).
• Ability to apply an in depth knowledge of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education for Deaf students;
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and work with students with multiple exceptionalities.
