Computer Science Data Support Intern

Job title: Computer Science Data Infrastructure Support Intern

Location: In person, Novelty, Ohio

Duration: 11–12 weeks (May–August 2025)

Hours: 35–40 hours/week

Type: Paid Internship, $20.00/hour

 

What Interns Will Work On:

Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of impactful projects, such as:

Data Vectorization and Standardization

  • Develop scripts (Python, etc.) to process and standardize materials data
  • Create and maintain automated data pipelines
  • Refine data cleaning and transformation algorithms

OCR and Text Processing

  • Improve OCR accuracy for materials science documents
  • Develop NLP techniques for extracting structured information
  • Build and manage datasets for training and testing models

API & AI Development and Integration

  • Support integration of data APIs with internal/external systems
  • Help research and develop a chatbot interface
  • Generative AI Proof of Concept:
  • Assist with prompt engineering for alt text generation
  • Build APIs to connect with generative AI models

UI Platform Support (Potential)

  • Contribute to front-end development for a potential UI platform update
  • Support testing, debugging, and documentation of UI components

 

What You’ll Learn:

  • Practical data engineering techniques
  • API development and integration best practices
  • NLP and OCR skills for unstructured data
  • Real-world database management experience
  • Software development methodologies in a team setting
  • Exposure to AI chatbot interfaces
  • Hands-on work with generative AI and prompt engineering
  • If applicable, experience with modern UI frameworks

 

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Junior or Senior student enrolled for Fall 2025 in Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science
  • Junior or Senior student enrolled for Fall 2025 in Earned Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Data Science
  • Programming experience (Python preferred)
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI, WordPress, or similar tools is a plus
  • Interest in AI/ML, data engineering, and software development
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Eagerness to collaborate and contribute in a team environment
