The Challenge

We're looking for an Electronics Technician to join our Wilkes County Traffic Services team.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical electronic traffic control systems, lighted signs, and roadway lighting.
  • Install traffic signal equipment by wiring/installing signal heads, wiring detectors, install and wire controllers.
  • Trace out electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Locate trouble and replaces worn/faulty parts.
  • Dismantle, reassemble, and test traffic control systems.
  • Supervise helpers.
  • Re-lamp/repair roadway light fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair roadway lighting control cabinets.

 

What You Bring

  • General knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe and efficient use of tools, materials, and test equipment used in the electrical/electronic trade.
  • Ability to diagnose sources of equipment failures and repair/maintain complex electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components.
  • Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Experience and ability to work effectively in varied environmental conditions, including extreme cold and hot outside conditions, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction.
  • Strength to lift up to 85+ pounds to shoulder height.
  • Ability to use and operate an aerial bucket truck up to 50 feet in height.
  • Communication skills to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Fitness to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signs and other traffic control devices.
  • A Class B Commercial Driver's License.
  • Safety toe shoes.

 

Notes

  • Overtime work is required when necessary, and you will be subject to emergency callbacks. While on callback rotation, you will be required to return to the Traffic Unit Office in North Wilkesboro within 30 minutes.
  • You may be required to work during non-traditional work hours including weekends, holidays, nights and times of emergencies.
  • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 3 years about controlled substance and alcohol.
  • We may require appropriate licensure by a governing board or commission.

Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree in Electronics, and
  • 1+ year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
