Data Analyst

BWXT is currently seeking a Data Analyst to support its EHS&S organization!

 

This role reports to the EH&S Corporate Director and can be performed from its Lynchburg, VA or a remote US location!

 

The Data Analyst will be responsible for managing, analyzing, and interpreting data related to environmental, health, safety, and security (EHS&S) metrics. This role will involve working closely with EHS&S professionals to identify trends, assess risks, and provide statistical support for EHS&S initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data management, analytical skills, and a passion for improving workplace safety and environmental sustainability. When unusual situations occur and/or BWXT initiates Crisis Action, all EHS&S employees may be required to accept specials assignments and perform as needed to ensure effective crisis response and consequence management. This role may be required to travel up to 25%.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Develops, collects, analyzes, and presents data and metrics that measure BWXT’s progress on established goals and objectives.
  • Builds extensive data analytics products with multiple large data sources using data platforms such as PowerBI, Tableau or ArcGIS. 
  • Collects and organizes data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Conducts data analyses to identify trends, correlations, and anomalies in data.
  • Establishes and maintains a “lessons learned environment”, leveraging referenced data.
  • Uses Gensuite, Tableau, Microsoft BI, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word to develop ESH&S reports and presentations.
  • Builds and establishes governance for internal and external data sharing across multiple platforms and environments.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports on findings and presents them to management and stakeholders.
  • Creates visualizations like graphs, charts, and dashboards, to effectively communicate data insights.
  • Assists in evaluating the effectiveness of programs and initiatives by analyzing pre- and post-implementation data.
  • Provides trends-based recommendations to enhance policies and practices.
  • Participates in cross-functional teams to support interdisciplinary projects and initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with professionals to define data needs and develops analysis strategies.
  • Provides Gensuite training and support to team members.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Statistics and Analysis, Information Science, Computer Sciences, Management Information Systems, Geographic Information Systems, or Environmental Safety and Health.
  • 3 years of experience conducting data analyses to identify trends, correlations, and anomalies in complex data. 
  • Demonstrated experience building extensive data analytics products with multiple large data sources using data platforms such as PowerBI, Tableau or ArcGIS.
  • Proven examples of creating visualizations, such as graphs, charts, and dashboards to effectively communicate data insights.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, research, and proven analytical acumen.
  • Proficiency in software, like Gensuite, Tableau, and Microsoft Power BI, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to different company sites and external conferences or training sessions.

 

  • U.S. citizen.
  • No dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

 

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis, research, and proven analytical acumen in the EHS&S, or closely related, field.
  • Experience conducting and leading data analysis projects.
  • Experience with data modeling and data analysis.
  • Programming experience in languages such as SQL, R, Python, etc.
  • Experience building and administering reports and dashboards in enterprise systems such Power BI or Tableau.
  • Familiarization in GIS platforms, such as ArcGis Pro, ArcGIS Online, and building interactive web maps.
  • Knowledge of and practical application experience with statistical methods.
