Project description:
Vectech’s flagship product is IDX, an AI-powered microscope that assists in identifying mosquitoes and ticks—critical vectors of disease. As the IDX is deployed across diverse field sites around the world, we need to monitor the data it generates and evaluate how our system is performing in real-world conditions.
This internship project focuses on developing (and improving) visual tools that blend solid statistical foundations with compelling graphics. The goal: help our team quickly understand where things are going well, and where there's room for improvement. You'll play a key role in transforming raw data into actionable insights that guide decisions across product, science, algorithm development, and operations.
What will you do?
The Data Analytics Intern role is an entry-level position for individuals who are passionate about using data to make a real-world impact in public health and environmental science. You’ll work closely with our product management and computer vision teams to track how our vector classification models are performing as they are used around the globe.
You'll help us build dashboards that monitor system performance and product usage, turning raw data into insights that inform decisions across the company. You'll also support internal and external communications by creating compelling visualizations for presentations, reports, and the occasional impromptu brainstorming session. Think of yourself as part data detective, part storyteller.
Some programming skills in Python, a healthy understanding of statistics coupled with a curiosity-driven approach to data, and an appreciation for clean visuals and meaningful metrics is required
You’ll be mentored by our data analytics team (we promise we’re fun), and your work will directly support our mission to improve global health using technology. We find it exhilarating—and we hope you will too.

- Current college student, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, who is attending a Maryland higher education institution.

- Graduate (within 12 months) of a Maryland higher education institution.
- Maryland resident, with a 2 or 4-year degree, who has been honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces, The National Guard or a Reserve component of the Armed Forces within the last 18 months.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with the product management team to develop and maintain dashboards that track product usage and performance;
- Analyze data from computer vision systems deployed in the field to generate insights and identify trends;
- Create clean, intuitive visualizations to support internal reporting and external communications;
- Assist in preparing figures and data summaries for presentations, publications, or stakeholder meetings;
- Help ensure data quality and consistency across different sources and platforms;
- Respond to data requests with curiosity, efficiency, and just enough skepticism to keep us all honest;
- Participate in team meetings, contribute to project planning, and ask great questions
Required experience/skills:
- Some proficiency in Python for data science (pandas/matplotlib/seaborn, coursework or personal projects both count);
- Familiarity with basic statistics (ideally two semesters of coursework);
- Exposure to SQL databases (you know what a join is, or are eager to learn fast);
- Interest in data visualization and communicating insights clearly;
- Readiness to learn rapidly, adapt to new tools, and work in a fast-paced startup environment;
-
Comfort with a little chaos—we move fast, wear many hats, and sometimes figure things out as we go.
Preferred experience/skills:
- Experience with Tableau or similar data visualization tools;
- Experience with R, especially for creating figures for scientific communication;
- Prior experience working on real-world data analysis projects (coursework, internships, or personal projects all count);
- Enthusiasm for public health, environmental science, or mission-driven work.

Who is Vectech?
Vectech equips professionals with the capabilities of a medical entomologist using AI. Mosquitoes are the deadliest animals in the world, killing over half-a-million people each year. Ticks transmit deadly and debilitating diseases. There are thousands of different species of mosquitoes and ticks, which carry different diseases and have different behaviors that call for different control measures. With Vectech's products, public health vector control organizations can quickly generate the information they need to make public health decisions.
