Accounting Intern

PetIQ is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented summer Accounting Intern to support key financial initiatives and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, pet health-focused company. This internship offers the opportunity to assist with financial reporting enhancements and a fixed assets software deployment, while also contributing to monthly reconciliations, P&L reviews, and general accounting duties. The ideal candidate is an accounting student with strong Excel skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for learning in a fast-paced environment. This will be a 12 week program onsite in Eagle, Idaho.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assist Accounting management with two key department initiatives, Financial Reporting Enhancement and Fixed Assets Software Deployment
- Assist with other adhoc requests
Essential Functions/Job Duties:

Financial Reporting Enhancement Initiative
- Work with team to identify key manual reports in financial statement preparation and review process
- Build automated templates in Excel, Power BI, Vena or other tools
- Test and validate reports for accuracy
- Draft financial statement templates and the database linking files for automation

Fixed Assets Software Deployment
- Work with the team to identify and reconcile current fixed asset ledgers
- Build import templates and reconcile imported data into new fixed asset system
- Test and validate the reports for accuracy.
- Document the process for asset entry, asset disposal and report creation.
- Draft monthly depreciation reports and journal entry import templates for entry into Sage X3 ERP and Innatrack ERP systems.
- General Accounting duties
- Monthly account reconciliations
- P&L review
- Assist in drafting or updating department documentation and SOP’s (standard operating procedures)
- Owner of Vendor Spend Reporting and Dashboard
- Net Working Capital Analysis
- Purchase Price Inflation / Deflation Tracking
- Prepare for Supplier Meetings / Negotiations
- Track Commodity/Index Market Trends
- Key Contributor in RFQ initiatives
- Material Cost Planning for Budget/Flex
- Purchase Price Variance Analysis
- Volume Pricing Tier Analysis for Planners/Buyers
- Freight Analysis (International and Domestic)
- Identify and Quantify Global Procurement Opportunities
- Ad Hoc Analysis and Support, as necessary
- Projects and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proficient in Excel
- 3+ years of related experience, preferably in consumer-packaged goods industry.
- Experience working across multiple departments to complete complex projects or resolve an organizational challenge.
Education Requirements:
- Enrolled in Accounting or similar major
Preferred Qualifications:
- Positive professional attitude with a willingness to work as a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with ability to follow up on details
- Good understanding of documentation standards
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail
- Prior experience in Procurement, Mfg Operations and/or Plant Cost Accounting.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, sound computer skills and previous experience with MRP and ERP systems preferred (Sage X3 a plus).
- Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work independently to meet deadlines and be willing to work additional or flexible hours as needed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presenting financial insights to stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, and financial reporting tools. PetIQ uses Vena and Sisense.
- Basic understanding of budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Strong Excel skills along with working knowledge of how to gather data from various systems.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality while dealing with sensitive information.
