Environmental, Health and Safety Intern
Responsibilities
- Become familiar with OSHA, EPA, LADEQ, LDH and LADOTD regulations that apply to a chemical manufacturing facility
- Optimize routine tasks that are required for environmental compliance (e.g., inspections, audits, procedures, calculations, etc.)
- Visually inspect waste storage areas, wastewater treatment plant, storage tank secondary containments and other manufacturing areas
- Obtain working knowledge of environmental and safety management systems (e.g., IShare, LeakDAS, PI process book, excel spreadsheets, etc.)
- Conduct various field projects which may involve studying various production processes, collecting samples, conducting operator surveys, supporting on-site inspections, and equipment monitoring
- Support safety inspections, audits, and assessments of various programs
- Support procedure and policy development (e.g., safe work, equipment operation, etc.)
- Support identification of applicable training requirements for Eastman facilities
- Support Responsible Care and sustainability initiatives
- Research ways to reduce waste generation and pollution to support a circular economy
Qualifications
- Currently in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field
Preferred Qualification:
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Problem solving while working with others from diverse backgrounds
- Desire to pursue a career in the chemical industry
