Communications Intern

First State Educate (FSE)
Location: Fully Remote (Delaware-based a plus, but not required)
Time Commitment: 10–15 hours/week | May–August 2025 (with potential to extend)
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate

About FSE:
First State Educate (FSE) is a nonprofit working to strengthen local education leadership by empowering Delaware’s school boards and the communities they serve. We focus on improving student outcomes through strategic communications, voter engagement, and smart policy.

We’re looking for a high-performing Communications Intern to join our small but mighty team this summer. This is not your typical internship. We're moving fast, building as we go, and looking for someone who thrives in high-energy, high-output environments where initiative and problem-solving are key.

What You’ll Do:
You’ll work closely with our Communications Lead to help manage and execute a dynamic portfolio of communications work, including:

  • Drafting and scheduling engaging social media posts (LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram)
  • Supporting newsletters, email campaigns, and policy e-blasts
  • Assisting with website updates, SEO, and content optimization
  • Helping manage digital ad campaigns (Google Ads, Meta/Facebook)
  • Creating voter outreach materials and supporting campaign messaging
  • Promoting podcast content and building audience engagement
  • Supporting our membership drive for the Knowledge Hub platform
  • Contributing to light digital design and video editing projects (Canva or similar)
  • Pitching creative ideas to elevate our brand and reach

This Role Is a Great Fit If You:

  • Are a junior or senior majoring in Communications, Marketing, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field
  • Are an independent self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous, evolving environments
  • Love solving problems, asking good questions, and figuring things out
  • Can manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal hand-holding
  • Are a strong writer who understands tone, clarity, and audience
  • Have working knowledge of social platforms, basic design tools (Canva, etc.), and content creation
  • Work well on a team, take feedback in stride, and are excited to contribute
  • Are energized by mission-driven work and want to grow your skills while making an impact

Why This Role Matters:
We’re not just filling a seat — we’re inviting you to be part of a mission-focused team tackling real-time education issues that matter. You'll get hands-on experience with high-impact projects, contribute to work that influences public dialogue, and build a standout portfolio in nonprofit communications, marketing, and advocacy.

To Apply:
Send a resume, a short note about why you’re interested, and 1–2 samples of your work (this could be writing, social content, graphics, etc.) to info@firststateeducate.org with the subject line: Communications Intern Application – [Your Name]. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
