About the Internship

Are you a savvy storyteller with a knack for technical writing and visual communication? Do you have an eye for graphics and a pulse on social media trends? We’re looking for a Business Communications Intern to support strategic communication efforts that promote our mission and services across the regional trauma and emergency healthcare system.

This is an exciting opportunity for a student or early-career professional interested in healthcare, public safety, nonprofit work, or emergency management operations. You’ll gain firsthand experience working with a team dedicated to improving trauma response systems in San Antonio and surrounding counties, as well as coordinating efforts across the state of Texas.

Job Summary

The Business Communications Intern will help tell the story of our organization through compelling content, strategic graphics, and social media engagement. Working under the guidance of the Chief of Staff and in collaboration with other departments, this intern will assist in creating communications materials that inform, educate, and engage our stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with staff to understand our service lines and their communication needs
  • Assist in gathering and analyzing source materials (past campaigns, research, technical docs) to craft effective messaging
  • Draft and edit communications content for multiple platforms (web, social, print)
  • Translate complex healthcare and emergency management topics into accessible, engaging language
  • Contribute to the development of social media content and maintain regular posting schedules
  • Support updates to the organization's website
  • Design or assist with visual materials including infographics, presentations, and promotional graphics
  • Create and edit technical and procedural documents such as user guides and manuals
  • Present communication ideas to the Chief of Staff and support campaign planning
  • Proofread and review materials to ensure clarity, consistency, and grammatical accuracy
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support the Communications team

Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent grammar, editing, and storytelling abilities
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to translate technical language for general audiences
  • Self-starter with the ability to meet deadlines and work independently
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Basic proficiency in design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite) is a plus
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Education & Experience:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field
  • 1–2 years of experience in writing, editing, or marketing (internship or freelance acceptable)
  • Portfolio of writing or design work highly preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally
