The League to Save Lake Tahoe is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to support the Policy Team. The Policy Intern will assist with policy research, advocacy efforts, and community outreach to advance environmental policies that protect Lake Tahoe. The ideal candidate is passionate about environmental issues – especially those related to the built environment, interested in public policy, and eager to gain hands-on experience in environmental advocacy. In 2025, this position will have some focus on supporting a pilot project providing and encouraging transit access to recreation.

Essential Functions/Principal Responsibilities
- Assist with analyzing, researching, and helping evaluate proposed land use plans, legislative opportunities, transportation plans, and development and restoration projects within the greater Lake Tahoe region, in support of the Policy Team.
- Support a pilot transit and parking management project at a popular recreation destination by helping to maximize ridership through in-person public and business outreach, developing public communications, conducting rider surveys, reviewing monitoring data, and considering adaptive management actions.
- Aid in the development of policy reports, fact sheets, and public comment letters.
- Support leadership to prepare for public meetings and working group participation through the creation of agendas, responding to emails, and ensuring preparation of documents.
- Track, attend, and summarize key government and public meetings, hearings, and workshops as a League representative.
- In conjunction with the League’s Communications Team, help coordinate and support advocacy campaigns, including outreach to stakeholders and the public.
- Assist with organizing policy-related materials.
Other Duties
- Attend meetings and activities as requested by the Supervisor.
- Assist with outreach and engagement efforts.
- Attend League events, if they do not conflict with primary duties, such as the annual benefit, 5th of July beach cleanups, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Some travel around the Tahoe Basin will be required, and some evenings, for community and partner meetings, outreach, and League events.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- An interest in environmental protection and the League’s mission to protect, restore, and advocate for the ecosystem health and scenic beauty of Lake Tahoe.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to synthesize complex information.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to attend public meetings and engage with stakeholders.
- Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.
Pay and Hours
- $20 per hour.
- Up to 190 total hours during the internship period.
- Flexible scheduling, with potential for academic credit.
Location
- South Lake Tahoe Headquarters.
