Anchor and Executive Producer
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced News Anchor/Executive Producer to serve as both the editorial leader of our Spanish-language newscast and the trusted on-air face of our news team. This hybrid role blends exceptional journalism, editorial leadership, and an engaging on-air presence.
The ideal candidate will be fluent in spoken and written Spanish, possess a strong understanding of U.S. news and political landscapes, and bring a proven track record in both anchoring and newsroom management. This position plays a key role in setting editorial direction, driving content strategy, and mentoring newsroom staff—all while anchoring newscasts that inform and connect with our audience.
About You:
You are a natural storyteller with the journalistic instinct to track leads, develop strong angles, and present balanced, engaging stories across platforms. You thrive under pressure, can confidently ad-lib during breaking news, and are skilled at live reporting and simultaneous English-to-Spanish translation when necessary. You also bring the leadership and decision-making ability needed to oversee a high-performing team in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
As Executive Producer:
- Oversee the daily editorial direction, planning, and workflow of assigned newscasts.
- Lead editorial meetings and make strategic decisions regarding story selection, development, and placement.
- Coach and supervise producers, reporters, and newsroom staff to ensure excellence in content, accuracy, and ethical standards.
- Ensure adherence to journalistic guidelines and station policies.
- Coordinate coverage for breaking news, special reports, and major events across platforms.
- Monitor ratings, viewer feedback, and editorial performance to drive continuous improvement.
As News Anchor:
- Deliver newscasts in Spanish across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms with clarity, authority, and engagement.
- Write and edit scripts in Spanish with a high standard of accuracy and journalistic integrity.
- Collaborate with producers and reporters to develop compelling, well-rounded newscasts.
- Conduct live interviews and anchor breaking news with confidence and professionalism.
- Report from the field on assigned stories, special projects, investigations, explainers, or interviews.
- Represent the station at community events and public appearances as a brand ambassador.
- Create content for digital and social media platforms, including posting stories online and on UCI-affiliated sites.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in Spanish and English (written and verbal).
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent newsroom experience (5+ years).
- Proven experience as an on-air anchor; executive producer experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of political journalism, particularly within the U.S. landscape.
- Exceptional live reporting, ad-libbing, and simultaneous English-to-Spanish translation skills.
- Familiarity with iNews or similar newsroom systems.
- High ethical and journalistic standards with a passion for informing the community.
- Must be flexible with schedule, including availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and breaking news coverage.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for up to 8 hours; must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds if needed.
