Commencement Event Staff
We are seeking EVENT STAFF with a passion for hospitality and creating unforgettable events to help with commencement!
Commencement at The University of Akron is scheduled for Friday & Saturday, May 9th & 10th.
Applicants will be able to choose which ceremony/ceremonies they would like to participate in.
Position Summary:
Event staff includes Ticket Scanners and Service Assistants, which are responsible for delivering a high-quality, memorable guest experience at all UA events. This is a part-time, one-time position that is ideal for those seeking additional funds and work experience before the end of the year. Event staff actively handle set-up, presentation, execution, and guest service for all UA events. Event Staff are typically performing a variety of duties aimed at positive customer interactions and efficient handling of duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Experience in a customer service-oriented role or support staff member in a fast-paced, high-volume, events environment preferred. However, no experience is required.
• Prior experience within a large volume event setting is preferred.
• Ability to use technology as needed to aid the customer service experience. e.g. using a ticket scanner at points of entry.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build positive relationships with people in the scope of employment.
• Ability to consistently deliver high-quality guest experiences, exceed guest expectations, and strive to create a memorable experience with every UA guest.
• Ability to execute professional service and handle diverse clientele with composure and hospitality.
• Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks and duties as assigned.
• Knowledge of safety and sanitation standards.
• Ability to work efficiently, productively, proactively, resourcefully, and take initiative as needed.
• Attention to detail will be a necessity.
• Aptitude to resolve problems.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the role including standing/walking for entirety of shift, bending, pulling, pushing, using stairs, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
Overview of Responsibilities:
• Deliver exceptional guest service with an emphasis on hospitality.
• Adhere to UA policies and ensure all steps are taken to execute a high-end event consistent with UA standards.
• Follow all UA policies, procedures, and guidelines, including being ready to work at scheduled shift time, in uniform, with neat and presentable appearance.
• Perform all duties as assigned at the particular event and related to the nature of the event including but not limited to: set-up, service execution, and breakdown.
• Handle guest inquiries, requests, and needs.
• Maintain safe and clean work environment.
• Follow all health and safety regulations, including enforcing laws and ordinances in the handling and provision of alcoholic beverages.
• Perform all other reasonably assigned duties.
• Must be able to attend a training session or meeting as needed prior to the day of the event.

Snacks and drinks will be available Friday and Saturday; lunch and dinner meals will be provided for you as part of Saturday's schedule. If hired, please communicate any dietary restrictions. Applicants will be required to work per the hours indicated on the ceremony/ceremonies they choose to participate.
