Graduate Administrative Assistant - Social Work Department

Job Description:

This position will provide a wide variety of administrative duties related to the general functions of the Social Work Department.

Duties include. but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with marketing and recruitment for the Department’s programs and events, updating and managing the department’s website and managing department social media presence in collaboration with other administrative staff.
  • Assisting department administrators in organization of department responsibilities, such as community outreach, trainings, and service activities.
  • Attending department meetings and assist with maintenance of records. 
  • Assisting department faculty and administrators with planning, promoting and delivering events, including training for students and community members, departmental professional events, and professional presentations. 
  • Support in researching, amending, and reorganizing departmental policies related to accreditation and departmental functions. 
  • Assist with tutoring and support of students, primarily in the BSW program. 
  • Assisting faculty with grading, exam proctoring, and research projects.
  • Assisting faculty in some teaching duties as needed. 
  • As part of a multi-dimensional department, this position may be called upon to assist with other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Accepted into an NMU graduate program without conditions
  • Must meet all the NMU graduate assistantship guidelines and requirements
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Capable of analytical thinking and problem-solving
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Familiarity with general office procedures and programs
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Capable of managing deadlines and simultaneous projects
  • Ability to work independently and in team setting
  • Familiarity with survey design, data collection and data analysis preferred. 
  • Undergraduate degree in social work or completion of first year of MSW study preferred.
  • Knowledge of social work theories, practice methods, research methods, values, and skills preferred. 
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes in higher education and/or human services preferred.
  • Familiarity with marketing preferred.
  • Familiarity with events planning preferred. 
  • Preference for this position will go to MSW students enrolled in the Advanced Standing track, or who is in the second year of the Regular Standing track. Second preference will be given to any MSW student before consideration of non-social work graduate students.
