POSITION TITLE: Artificial Intelligence Policy Fellow

DURATION: Part-time

Overview

SIIA, a leading voice of the content, technology, and information industries, is seeking a part time Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy Fellow to join its dynamic policy and government affairs team for Summer 2025. In this role you will report to SIIA’s Manager for AI Policy and collaborate with SIIA’s policy experts and member companies to advance common priorities through SIIA advocacy materials and activities. This is a unique opportunity for someone passionate about the intersection of AI, public policy, and innovation. The fellow will gain hands-on experience contributing to policy advocacy and thought leadership on some of the most pressing and rapidly evolving technology policy topics. The position provides an excellent opportunity to build writing samples, grow your professional network, and deepen your understanding of how industry and government collaborate on emerging technology issues.

Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated interest in technology policy, government, and politics. They should be strong writers and communicators, collaborative team members, and driven to dive into complex matters of policy.

This position will be compensated at $17.50 per hour except for those candidates who are eligible to receive college or university credit for their participation in the internship.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and summarize federal and state legislative developments and regulatory activity related to artificial intelligence, including hearings, legislative markups, and agency rulemakings.
  • Track and synthesize global policy trends and multilateral efforts related to AI governance and risk frameworks.
  • Develop member-facing policy trackers and resources on AI-related legislation.
  • Draft high-quality written materials to support SIIA AI policy advocacy efforts, including comment letters, memos, and talking points.
  • Assist with the coordination and preparation of AI policy meetings, webinars, roundtables, and member briefings.
  • Contribute to SIIA’s AI thought leadership across multiple formats including public blog posts, short-form video content breaking down complex AI policy issues, and other creative content to bolster SIIA’s online presence.
  • Represent SIIA and our AI policy priorities by participating in meetings with government officials, thought leaders, SIIA members, and other industry representatives.
  • Have an opportunity to prepare at least one substantive writing project that can be used as a writing sample following the internship.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The Artificial Intelligence Policy Fellow must be currently pursuing an undergraduate degree or a graduate degree in law, politics, policy, or a related field. In addition, candidates must have the following:

  • Strong research and writing skills, especially the ability to synthesize complex topics clearly and concisely for a variety of audiences.
  • Familiarity with U.S. legislative and regulatory processes; experience tracking hearings or reviewing bills is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize the policy positions of the organization and its members, even when those positions differ from one’s own.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, capable of balancing multiple projects.
  • Brings a creative and proactive mindset, with a willingness to contribute ideas for how policy content is communicated through writing and social media.
  • Ability to make a commitment of no less than 15 hours per week.
