Employee will be assigned to the Division of Air Quality, Air Monitoring Section (Northern Panhandle and statewide back up), perform entry-level professional work in the specialized area of environmental ambient air monitoring.

This position begins and ends each day at the office the majority of the time during regular operations.

Employee will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of a multi-site ambient air monitoring network to collect quality-assured, legally defensible data.

Position requires broad level operation, troubleshooting and maintenance and repair of a variety of air monitoring instruments in field and bench settings.

Employee will:

  • Read and use technical manuals, specification sheets and flow diagrams in performance of tasks;
  • Review data outputs and reports in assessing instrument behavior;
  • Perform calibrations on air monitoring instruments and ancillary equipment;
  • Use a variety of electronic testing and audit equipment in performance of duties;
  • Follow basic scientific principles, standard technical and quality assurance procedures, US EPA rules and guidelines in the performance of duties;
  • Maintain detailed records, chain of custody, log books and inventories of air monitoring instrumentation;
  • Possess excellent computer skills and have the ability to follow procedures to perform keypad programming of computers in instrumentation such as monitors, calibrators, and data loggers;
  • Responsible for grounds keeping maintenance of the monitoring sites;
  • Prepare, ship and receive samples;
  • Read, follow, review, and write step-by-step procedures in Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance Project Plans;
  • Assist in tracking equipment and supplies to maintain Inventory system;
  • Perform monitoring site assessments in accordance with US EPA siting guidance;
  • Consult on equipment replacement and make recommendations for parts and instrument purchases and perform or assist in acquisition of needed parts and supplies;
  • Perform other related work as required and/or assigned.

 

Position demands:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Handling, connecting, and manually lifting high-compression gas cylinders, air monitoring devices, and repair equipment;
  • Climbing ladders, walking up steps, and accessing rooftops;
  • Carrying equipment weighing as much as 90 lbs over rugged terrain and in inclement weather conditions (with assistance);
  • Travel long distances.

Notes:

  • Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.
  • The recommended candidate will be subject to a search of his or her Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) prior to being hired and annually thereafter.
  • Qualifying applicants will be required to complete an internet-based profile assessment to compare the applicant's thinking and reasoning skills, behavioral traits and the occupational interests against the traits determined to be important to the posted position.


 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Training: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid technical or paraprofessional experience in the acquisition, preservation, protection and enhancement of environmental/natural resources may be substituted for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.

PG:  14     $39,461 - $68,582

Market Rate: $61,044
