Laurence and Associates, LLC is a multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm based in Mobile, Alabama. We specialize in engineering design and planning services for the marine and cargo handling industry, including equipment, wharfs, and building-related infrastructure. Our team supports ports, terminals, and industrial clients throughout North America with services in structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering, as well as project management and construction support.

 

Position Overview

We are offering a structured Engineering Co-Op Program for students seeking hands-on experience over three academic terms: Fall 2025, Summer 2026, and Spring 2027. This role provides a progressive learning path, beginning with CAD-based drafting and expanding into broader engineering support. The Co-Op will gain experience working alongside professional engineers on real-world projects that impact major ports and cargo terminals across the U.S.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce CAD drawings and technical models to support engineering designs for cranes, wharf structures, foundations, and mechanical systems
  • Assist engineers with drawing revisions, redlines, and updates across multiple disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical)
  • Learn and apply CAD standards specific to marine and industrial engineering
  • Support the development of project documentation including specifications, calculations, and cost estimates
  • Participate in design reviews and engineering meetings to gain exposure to technical decision-making
  • Occasionally assist with field data collection, equipment surveys, or site inspections
  • Maintain organized drawing files and adhere to version control best practices

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering
  • Must be eligible for a Co-Op program through your university or college
  • Basic familiarity with AutoCAD or other CAD software; must demonstrate a strong willingness and ability to learn CAD
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow technical guidance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Dependable, organized, and ready to contribute to a collaborative engineering environment

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous coursework or personal experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or SolidWorks
  • Interest in industrial, marine, or structural engineering
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and basic engineering analysis tools (Outlook, Excel, MathCAD, etc.)
