About the Position:
Under the direction of the Branch Chief of the Office of Commercial Vehicle Operations (CVO), a Senior Transportation Engineer (Supervisor), the incumbent, a Transportation Engineer (Civil) serves as the Transportation Permit Policy Engineer in the Transportation Permit Policies and Compliance Branch. The incumbent is responsible for developing specifications, policies, and procedures, conducting engineering reviews, and oversight of transport equipment with various weight distribution systems. The incumbent reviews extralegal length, width, height, and weight to ensure conformity with the state laws, regulations, and procedures, created to maximize transportation safety and efficiency as well as minimize property damage, traffic congestion, and pollution.
The incumbent works on complex technical tasks related to transportation permits to ensure the safe, efficient, uniform, and consistent permitting of oversized/overweight (extralegal) transport on California State highways.
