Job Description
The Post-Fire Forest Resilience education program collaborates with subject matter experts across CA, who aim to assist private forest landowners as they begin the process of reversing the ecological, economic, environmental, and social impacts of the 2019-2021 wildfires. Using acquired, professional instructional design skills, the Instructional Designer 2 will aid the Post-Fire Resilience team in developing, testing, and launching an asynchronous, educational, online learning program for non-industrial private forest landowners affected by wildfire in CA. The Instructional Designer 2 will demonstrate effective communication to assist in writing and disseminating information to help create and maintain existing websites and outreach methods. Reporting and working closely with the Post-Fire Resilience Academic coordinator, the Instructional Designer 2 will analyze program content and delivery needs in determining program effectiveness of outreach and educational goals.
This position is a contract appointment that is 100% fixed, and ends March 23, 2026.
The home department for this position is the ANR Fire Network. While this position normally is based in Davis, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements for applicants living in the State of California at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.
Pay Scale: $29.21/hour to $40.18/hour

Under general supervision, designs, organizes and synthesizes existing educational materials into accessible, engaging learning activities for the online, post-fire asynchronous learning program.

Utilizes evaluation tools for modules, instructors, and programs to measure knowledge gain and success of outreach and education materials.

Collaborates with program staff to develop and improve existing outreach materials and extension methods such as factsheets, videos and websites.

Assists in conducting analysis, prioritizing work assignments, and developing program recommendations.

Participates in approved training and professional developmental activities to learn and maintain programmatic and subject matter competence.

Assists in developing strategic marketing plans to reach targeted audience with developed educational materials.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• Demonstrated analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, collaboration and negotiation skills.
• Working knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
• Working knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
• Working knowledge and skills with business, social media and learning management software programs; i.e., Word, Excel, Adobe, PowerPoint, Zoom, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Moodle, Canvas, etc. Working knowledge of adult learning theories and education methodologies.
• Ability to work independently and maintain positive interactions with others and work cooperatively.
Preferred Skills:
• Continuing education in related field preferred.
• Knowledge or experience in forestry, post-wildfire recovery, or natural resources
• Experience working with or educating individuals with diverse backgrounds
Special Conditions of Employment:
• Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
