This position serves as the JCL and Production Job Scheduler, supporting the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) directing and coordinating schedules for processing production Job Streams.
In this role, you will set up, edit, submit, and analyze all JCL necessary to successfully process production systems in accordance with the master processing schedules for the Support Services Division.
In addition, you will analyze and prepare JCL vis TSO/SPF required for individual computer production execution, inserting the necessary data, overrides, restarts, and files.
This position serves as a lead worker.

Essential Functions
- Under direction, serves as the JCL and Production Job Scheduler for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) supporting the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES), directing, and coordinating schedules for processing production Job Streams.
- Analyzes and prepares Job Control Language (JCL) via Time Sharing Option (TSO) /Structured Programming Facility (SPF) required for individual computer production execution.
- Submits production jobs in compliance with established procedures and specific processing schedules.
- Performs complex technical diagnostic functions to determine cause of incomplete or aborted execution
- Serves as lead worker.
- Reviews and approves new and/or revised production documentation in accordance with established ISB standards for the Data Processing Division.
- Confers with the Equipment Operations Unit, Data Preparation and the I/O Room regarding all input and output needed to ensure accurate and expeditious processing of all production execution.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
- Requires four (4) years of previous related experience such as is typically gained at the Data Processing Specialist level.
OR
- Requires two (2) years of college coursework.
- Requires three (3) years of previous related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years professional experience writing, analyzing, and maintaining Job Control Language (JCL) scripts for production job execution in a mainframe environment, including Time Sharing Option (TSO) and Structured Programming Facility (SPF).
- Three (3) years professional experience submitting, monitoring, and troubleshooting production jobs, including analyzing job outputs and error logs for successful execution.
- Three (3) years of professional experience performing complex technical diagnostics and resolving incomplete or aborted production job executions, including preparing detailed trouble reports documenting the issue, resolution, and current status.
- Three (3) years of professional experience reviewing, approving, and maintaining production documentation in compliance with established standards for Information Services or Data Processing Division.
- Ability to provide leadership, guidance, instruction, and training to lower level staff including assigning and reviewing tasks and evaluating staff performance.
- Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.
- Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision.

- Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license and the ability to travel in performance of duties with overnight stays.
- Requires the ability to serve in an on-call capacity.
