Internship Description:
We are looking for a driven and curious Chemical Engineering Intern to join our team for hands-on experience in process development, testing, and product optimization. This internship provides an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete 360 hours of work as an intern (32-40 hours per week, 12 weeks total)
- Assist with process trials, data collection, and performance analysis under supervision
- Support product development efforts by preparing lab-scale batches and testing formulations
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to improve production processes and efficiency
- Help prepare technical documentation, including lab reports and process summaries
- Follow safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a clean and organized lab
Goals and Expectations of the Intern:
- Apply chemical engineering principles to real product and process challenges
- Gain experience with lab-scale and pilot-scale equipment and systems
- Develop skills in technical reporting and cross-functional communication
- Understand the lifecycle of R&D and production in a manufacturing or product development environment
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno after the Spring ‘25 semester
- Spring ‘25 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
- Actively pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field
- Basic understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and chemical processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel for data analysis)
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and follow safety procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous lab or internship experience in a chemical, materials, or manufacturing setting
- Familiarity with lab equipment (mixers, reactors, testing instruments)
- Exposure to process control or simulation tools
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Desired Schedule for Intern:
Applicants must be able to work during regular office hours which are from 8am - 5pm. Must be available to work a minimum of 4 hours per shift.
Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 360 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
