
Research and Development Tech Intern (Pack STEM, Taiyo America, Summer '25)

Internship Description:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented R&D Intern to join our team. In this role, you will support research and development projects by assisting with data collection, analysis, product testing, and documentation. This internship offers hands-on experience in innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Ideal candidates are curious, proactive, and eager to contribute to the development of new products and technologies.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete 360 hours of work as an intern (32-40 hours per week, 12 weeks total)
- Assist with laboratory batch compounding under supervision
- Perform basic product testing following industry standards
- Support product application using lab or production equipment
- Help complete lab work request forms and maintain records
- Observe and practice safety procedures per OSHA guidelines
- Maintain lab cleanliness and assist with equipment prep.

- Gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, supporting product development processes.
- Develop a foundational understanding of chemical formulation and testing techniques.
- Build familiarity with lab equipment, safety procedures, and documentation practices.
- Contribute to ongoing R&D projects through data collection, observations, and reporting.
- Strengthen skills in technical communication and collaboration within a professional team.

- Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, supporting overall lab efficiency.

- Ask questions, seek feedback, and participate actively in team discussions or meetings.
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism when working with proprietary products and data.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a degree-seeking student at the University of Nevada, Reno after the Spring ‘25 semester
- Spring ‘25 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
- Currently enrolled in a program related to chemistry, biology, engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of scientific principles and interest in research and development work
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written) in English
- Basic math skills for measurements, weights, and data recording
- Willingness to follow safety procedures and wear required PPE in a lab environment
- Dependability in attendance and task completion
- Proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Word/Excel or lab-specific software, if applicable).
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm for hands-on learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous lab experience (academic or volunteer) involving hands-on testing or experimentation.
- Familiarity with lab equipment such as scales, pH meters, or mixers
- Understanding of lab safety protocols and proper handling of chemicals
- Experience using Microsoft Excel for tracking data or maintaining logs
- Strong organizational skills and attention to process or documentation
- Demonstrated interest in R&D or product development, such as science fairs, STEM clubs, or personal projects
- Teamwork experience from academic group projects, clubs, or part-time jobs
- Ability to follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) or technical instructions with minimal supervision.
Desired Schedule for Intern:
Applicants must be able to work during regular office hours which are from 8am - 5pm. Must be available to work a minimum of 4 hours per shift.
Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 360 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
