Special Education Teacher - Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ID 2790) - NCCSE

Job Summary

The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Special Education Teacher - Deaf and Hard of Hearing for the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) SELPA department with the Student Services & Programs division. The Special Education Teacher - DHH reports to the Coordinator of the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE), and is responsible for planning and implementing quality learning experiences, preparing semester plans and daily lesson plans, and creating a stimulating classroom environment conducive to intellectual discovery. Teachers participate in the IEP process and integrate IEP activities into their lessons. The teachers are responsible for planning assessment activities to evaluate students' progress in relation to State standards and then prepare reports on student learning progress. ABOUT NCCSE The North Coastal Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) is a multidistrict Special Education Local Planning Area (SELPA) composed of fourteen school districts that have joined in a cooperative effort to provide a coordinated delivery of programs, services and assurances to over 16,000 students with special education needs residing within its local planning area.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in deaf education or graduate studies in deaf education or other related field. Experience in the areas of learning disabilities, ESL, project-based learning and team teachings. High school experience is highly desirable.

Certificates, Licenses, Credentials:

  • Education Specialist credential with authorization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), or an equivalent credential
  • CLAD or equivalent English Learner Authorization
  • California Driver's License
  • CPR and First Aid certification are highly desirable
  • Proficiency in ASL required

A stipend of $6,000, paid out after three (3) years of consecutive full-time service, shall be paid to unit members hired on or after July 1, 2018 who have not received payment under this clause prior to July 1, 2023, hold state certification and are employed as Audiologists, Speech Hearing and Language Specialists, or in positions requiring authorizations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), Visually Impaired (VI) or Orientation and Mobility (O&M). The stipend will be paid out at the completion of the third instructional year.

This position is also eligible for Article XV: Salary, Section 2.C.5.B of the negotiated agreement between SDCOE and SDCAE.

*Note: Valid California credentials are a requirement at the time of hire.
