Recreation Intern
Position Overview
This position leads, plans, implements and coordinates day camps and various recreational activities for all ages. This position will be providing high quality recreational experiences for participants while maintaining a positive energy. This position requires general knowledge of, but is not limited to day camps, sports, outdoor activities and arts & crafts.
Essential Job Functions
· Assisting with and or leading operation of day camps, programs, classes and other activities.
· Keeping accurate attendance records for each program.
· Enforces policies and procedures as established by the department.
· Plans and conducts recreational activities for community members of all ages.
· Prepare facility (fields, rooms, etc.) for planned events.
· Ensures facility is maintained and safe procedures are followed.
· Monitors recreational events.
· Informs Recreation Supervisor when necessary to order and maintain camp and sporting equipment and supplies.
· To make recommendations to the Recreation Supervisor regarding program enhancement and any concerns regarding operations.
· Perform clerical duties, such as answering inquiries on upcoming events, register participants, etc.
· Complete reports for injury, accidents and other incidents.
· All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Study towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Sports Management or Leisure Studies, Education or related field. • Previous experience working with youth. • Ability to work other than normal working hours and to work various shifts as necessary up to 40 hours per week. • Completion of First Aid and CPR certification. • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions. • Regular and punctual attendance is required. • Ability to lead and participate in physical activities and swimming. • Ability to occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50lbs. • Work as a member of a team and able to lead, plan, and organize activities. Desirable Skills & Qualifications: • Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field. • Preferred areas of study: recreation, education or a related field. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, public relations, organizational and planning skills. • Skill in dealing tactfully and courteously with the general public. • Ability to work under the department leadership, including the Recreation Supervisor & Day Camp Director.
