College Internship - Engineering Department

Solano Irrigation District (SID) is offering internship opportunities in our Engineering department for college students and recent graduates interested in engineering, construction project management, or related fields. This internship provides valuable hands-on experience, helping develop technical skills, explore career paths, and transition into the job market.

We are looking for motivated individuals who are currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college program in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, eager to learn, and ready to take on both office and field work.

About the Internship
Applicants for College internship opportunities at the District must be either a college student enrolled in a course of study or a student who has graduated from college no more than six (6) months prior to placement. Education transcripts and proof of enrollment in college is a requirement for employment as an intern. 

Additionally, applicants must possess a valid driver's license to meet the requirements for fieldwork duties and travel. 

What You'll Do
Interns at SID may gain experience in a variety of areas, including:

  • GIS Work:
    • Documenting assets in the field using RTK Leica unit
    • Updating GIS maps and tables
    • Preparing GIS figures and collecting archived data
  • Record Keeping:
    • Updating record drawings from construction as-builts
    • Scanning, filing, and organizing development plans and correspondence
  • AutoCAD Drafting:
    • Creating and updating design drawings (AutoCAD required, Civil3D a plus)
    • Preparing figures and map books for internal use and presentations
  • Field Work:
    • Assisting with construction inspections
    • Supporting utility locating and marking (Underground Service Alert)
  • Surveying:
    • Supporting topographic field surveys using various tools, including laser levels and RTK Leica units
