Brubeck Jazz Summit is a one-week, transformative jazz education program for outstanding pre-college musicians from around the world. Students learn from a diverse and passionate roster of world-class faculty and guest artists through combo rehearsals, masterclasses, career development, jam sessions, and performances. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Brubeck Jazz Summit in Incline Village, NV seeks five interested individuals to join its seasonal staff as Summit Counselors. Successful Summit Counselors are those who can balance being responsible with a winning personality. They have an upbeat and determined nature, as well as strong leadership skills to help guide students during their stay on the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe campus. If you’re patient, collaborative, and lead with integrity, we’d like to meet you. This position reports to the Program Director. 

This is a seasonal, full-time position with employment spanning one week: July 12 to July 19, 2024 (with one additional day of setup/equipment load-in on July 10. Hours on July 10 TBD). Because of the event-oriented nature of the work, daily and weekly schedules and shift breaks are subject to change to fulfill job duties. This position is expected to work 40 hours per week. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Supervise an assigned group of students at all times throughout the week, while serving as a role model and offering support to students
  • Ensure all students are safe and accounted for at all times
  • Ensure students adhere to all University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe and Brubeck Jazz Summit policies and procedures (dorm quiet times, access to rooms/areas of the campus, etc.) and help to enforce rules and guidelines
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of facilities (rehearsal spaces, classrooms, common areas, equipment, etc..)
  • Assist with student check-in and check-out
  • Assist with student and faculty arrivals and departures (being stationed at the airport for new arrivals, driving a transport vehicle from the Reno/Tahoe airport to the Lake Tahoe Campus)
  • Assist in setting up/transporting musical equipment for rehearsals and workshops.
  • Assist production staff with load-in/load-out of equipment (July 10 load-in; July 19 load-out)
  • Assist Program Director and Lead Counselor with administrative duties as needed (printing music, setting up and maintaining classrooms, securing extra supplies if needed, etc.)
  • Assist with and participate in jam sessions as a musician alongside students and guest artists
  • Work as a team with the Lead Counselor to adhere to the daily schedule and report to Program Director
  • Maintain good communication with the Program Director during your employment
     

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • A general love for the arts and a good sense of humor
  • Ability to carry up to ~30lbs
  • At least 18 years of age
  • A valid Driver's License
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a complete background check
  • Previous experience in an overnight camp or teaching setting is preferred but not required
  • Available from arrival morning of July 12 to departure evening of July 19 (housing in dorms to be provided from July 12 - July 19). Additional availability on July 10 a plus. 
     

COMPENSATION 

  • $750
  • Housing in the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe dorms (single or double occupancy) will be provided.
  • Access to a shared rental car during the duration of the Summit.
  • All meals will be provided through the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe dining hall.
