IT Support Engineer Intern

As an IT Support Engineer Intern at R3, you’ll be immersed in a rotational experience that gives you exposure to the full spectrum of IT support—ranging from hardware configuration and depot operations, to help desk troubleshooting, and real-world, on-site field services. You’ll work side by side with seasoned engineers and technicians, gaining practical skills, professional mentorship, and insight into multiple career paths within the IT industry. Whether you’re passionate about systems, support, or fieldwork, this internship is designed to help you discover where you thrive.  

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Configure, image, and deploy desktops, laptops, and mook, let me bile devices for new and existing users
  • Perform basic hardware diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs
  • Assist in managing inventory of IT equipment, peripherals, and parts
  • Provide first-level support to internal users via phone, email, or ticketing system
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to hardware, software, printers, and connectivity
  • Document incidents, solutions, and user interactions in the ticketing system
  • Participate in on-site support tasks such as equipment installations, cable management, and infrastructure troubleshooting
  • Help maintain an organized and efficient IT workspace, including depot and field tools
  • Collaborate with team members on internal IT projects and process improvements
  • Support IT documentation efforts by updating guides and support materials

Requirements

Who you are: 

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Curious, proactive, and excited to work across different areas of IT
  • Comfortable working with hardware and software in a hands-on environment
  • A strong team player who communicates clearly and collaborates well with others
  • Abel to troubleshoot problems independently, but knows when to ask for help
  • Detail-oriented with solid problem-solving skills
  • Open to occasional travel for on-site support (if applicable)
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Windows/MacOS, basic networking, or a ticketing system

Additional details: 

  • This is a part-time internship opportunity
  • Hours are flexible, typically around 15-20 hours per week, and scheduled during our core business hours (8:00AM-6:00PM EST)
  • This is an on-site role based at our headquarters in Frederick, MD, so applicants must reside within commuting distance
  • This internship is paid, with compensation based on experience
