POSITION: Gourmet Popcorn Paid Intern
The Prospector is seeking a Gourmet Popcorn Paid Intern to assist the Prospector in driving our mission of improving the quality of life for people with disabilities through meaningful employment. A wide audience of community members creates meaningful relationships with Prospects through our moviegoing experience, gourmet popcorn program, and Prospect Productions, demonstrating the talents, sparkle, and employability of people with disabilities. We devise, create, and experiment with tools, products, curricula, strategies, and technology that allow us to serve as a global beacon of hope for the millions of Americans with disabilities who are unemployed. The Gourmet Popcorn Paid Intern is responsible for assisting the Prospector Popcorn team in all operations, including the production, marketing, and packaging/shipping of gourmet popcorn.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Food Preparation
- Learn and adhere to the designated cooking methods to assist in preparing the appropriate menu items consistently
- Follow proper food handling techniques and coordinate the use of time, material, and equipment to avoid waste and unnecessary expense
- Follow proper protocols as described in the Hygiene: Food & Beverage binder
- Adhere to all food safety and health codes
- Follow kitchen cleaning schedule, including opening/closing kitchen procedures
- Admin
- Assist the Prospector Popcorn team in calculating food costs and profits
- Control costs by reviewing portion controls and quantities of preparation while minimizing waste
- Maintain daily stock records and inventory of ingredients and packaging supplies
- Assist the Prospector Popcorn team in various administrative tasks necessary, including marketing
- Gourmet Popcorn
- Master the gourmet popcorn recipes for standard flavors and seasonal/custom flavors
- Learn every step of the process, from popping the kernels to flavoring the popcorn to bagging the finished product
- Maintain order and cleanliness of the workspace and displays
- Managing set-up, tear-down, and clean-up of pop-up tent events
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- Demonstrates passion for, and understanding, of Prospector’s mission
- Fluent in Google Workspace apps and software
- Tech and social media savvy
- Communicates and collaborates effectively
- Coordinates multiple projects in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment
- Possesses a positive attitude, good energy, flexibility, ability to work on a team, and attention to detail
- Deep ties to the community are strongly preferred
COMPENSATION:
The intern will earn $20/hour for 200 hours spanning 10 weeks, resulting in approximately $4,000
