The State of Connecticut, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) is seeking a part-time Supervising Nurse to join our team. This part-time position will be working within our Health Care Center in Rocky Hill. Find out more information on this great opportunity below!
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
- Location: 287 West St, Rocky Hill, CT
- Work Hours: Part-time, 24 hours per week
- Work Shift: Third Shift, 10:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.
- Work Schedule: Every other weekend and holidays.

BONUS FOR THIRD SHIFT REGISTERED NURSES
Each Registered Nurse who is permanently assigned to the second or third shift shall receive a “recruitment and retention” yearly bonus of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00). This bonus shall be pro-rated for part-time Registered Nurses. This bonus shall be paid biweekly. In order to be eligible for this bonus, the Employee must have completed one year of service in the registered nurse classification.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
You will be serving those who have served at the Sgt. John L. Levitow Healthcare Center, a Skilled Nursing Facility licensed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and certified by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The Healthcare Center is also certified as a State Veterans Homes by the Federal Veterans Administration and regularly inspected by the VA.
At our health care facility, we provide both short and long-term care for patients requiring daily medical management.THIS CAN INCLUDE:

For over 140 years, the Department of Veterans Affairs has been caring for its Veterans and their dependents. As a Department, we believe in "serving those who have served." This is accomplished through our: Office of Advocacy and Assistance, Residential Facility, Healthcare Center, and Cemetery and Burial Services.
The DVA has supported Connecticut Veterans and continues this tradition with Residential and Healthcare programming on our campus in Rocky Hill. There are two paths for residency at the DVA:
- Residential Facility: offers temporary, supportive living with programming designed to return Connecticut Veterans to independent living in the community;
- Sgt. John L. Levitow Healthcare Center: a state-of-the-art medical facility that offers long-term care for Veterans with chronic, disabling conditions who require 24-hour assistance.

The HCC stands apart from other 24-hour care centers with full time Physicians and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses on staff. Our highly trained staff is dedicated to providing compassionate care to meet the unique needs of Veteran patients, built on the foundation of integrity, honor, and respect. We pride ourselves on fostering these qualities as we honor Veteran patients for their service and encourage the innate bond between them.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse in a hospital, regional, institutional or psychiatric setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
- A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the General Experience.
- A Master's degree in nursing may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a Skilled Nursing Facility in a Long-Term Care setting.
- Experience utilizing Department of Public Health and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations in a Long-Term Care facility.
- Experience working with the Veteran population.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Connecticut.
