
[Remote] Curriculum Design Specialist
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Curriculum Design Specialist will work across our division to design and refine impactful curricula that center equity and social-emotional learning (SEL). This role supports four key areas: high school programs, out-of-school enrichment, college success initiatives, and staff learning. Collaborating with multiple teams, the specialist will build cohesive, culturally responsive learning experiences that align with program goals and participant needs. This is a dynamic, multi-faceted position that plays a critical role in advancing our mission to create inclusive, engaging, and equity-driven educational programs. This is a part-time role ideal for a mission-driven curriculum designer seeking flexible, high-impact work in a collaborative nonprofit environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
CURRICULUM STRATEGY
- Lead the strategy and development of curricula across diverse program areas
- Own the full arc of curriculum design—from vision to execution
- Collaborate closely with program staff to ensure curricula are grounded in on-the-ground realities and community needs.
- Support Education Fellows or interns who assist in transforming curriculum strategy into high-quality, implementable materials.
CURRICULUM EXECUTION
- Design and author detailed curriculum materials, presentations, and facilitator guides that support clear implementation across varied program contexts.
- Develop and organize scaffolded learning tools, handouts, and activities to complement lesson delivery and enhance engagement.
- Create and maintain an organized system on Google Drive to house, sort, and share all curriculum assets and supporting materials.
- Assist in planning and delivering training sessions for facilitators and program staff to ensure consistency and quality in curriculum implementation.
CURRICULUM EVALUATION
- Collaborate with team members to assess the effectiveness of curricula through feedback, participant outcomes, and facilitator reflections.
- Use evaluation findings to iterate on curriculum content and delivery methods to better meet program goals and participant needs.
- Co-develop evaluation tools (e.g., rubrics, surveys, observation forms) that support continuous improvement of learning experiences.
LEARNING TOOLS & SCAFFOLDING
- Design educational tools and resources that integrate principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), ensuring accessibility and responsiveness.
- Provide technical support and coaching to staff on the use of educational technology and platforms embedded in the curricula.
- Develop a library of adaptable, ready-to-use learning resources for internal staff to implement across programming.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities to enhance design skills and industry knowledge.
- Seek opportunities to learn new design tools and techniques to stay current with trends and practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Youth Development, or a related field (strong candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in progress will be considered)
- Demonstrated experience designing inclusive, engaging, and culturally responsive curricula for diverse youth and/or adult learners.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Drive, etc.) for curriculum creation, organization, and sharing.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with staff, facilitators, and leadership to translate program goals into intentional learning experiences.
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills with attention to detail in curriculum documentation and presentation materials.
- Self-directed, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities with tight timelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with project-based learning (PBL), experiential education, or enrichment programming.
- Experience facilitating professional development and/or training for staff.
- Knowledge of evaluation tools or assessment strategies used to inform curriculum improvement.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus, especially in languages spoken by the communities we serve.
ROLE DETAILS
- Schedule: 19 hours per Week
- Pay: $23-25 per hour, depending on qualifications & experience
- Expected Start Date: Early May
- Modality: Remote, some in-person days if candidate is able to commute to NYC
