
Public Health Nurse II
Essential Functions
The PHN II is expected to:
- Provide primary direct client care in all clinical program services assigned
- Conduct client interviews, assessments/screenings, administer medication/vaccines, perform lab procedures, appropriately document interactions/care, and provide education.
- Provide supervisory role to CNA as assigned
- Actively serve as backup to program coordinators in their absence.
- Write, develop, and assist program coordinators and PHN Nursing Supervisor II with creating, implementing, and maintaining standing orders, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with training additional personnel both clinical and non-clinical as assigned
- Actively engage in PCHD activities through community events, trainings, and offerings
- Approximate Percentage Breakdown of Position Activities:
- 80% Direct Client Care/Clinic workflow
- 10% Counseling/Referral
- 5% Monitoring/Reviewing/Maintenance
- 5% Training/Education/Supervisory responsibilities
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.
Additional Training / Experience:
- If applicable to the position, enrolled in the STI ERRN (Sexually Transmitted Infections Enhanced Role Registered Nurse) program within the first year of employment, completion of course within two years, and maintenance of certification requirements ongoing.
- Individuals employed in a local Health Department without a BS Degree which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master’s in Public Health will be required to complete the “Introduction to Principles and Practices of Public Health Nursing” course within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule.
Special Certifications and Licenses
- Must hold a current and valid license as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or hold a multistate license without restriction within the state of residence that allows for physical care as a Registered Nurse within North Carolina.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License in the state of residence.
- Must have a valid CPR course completion certificate/card that requires return demonstration of skills assessed by the instructor (preference to American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider)
- Individuals employed in a local Health Department without a B.S. Degree which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation or a Master’s in Public Health, will be required to complete an introductory course in principles and practices of public health nursing sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services- Division of Public Health within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule, 10 NCAC 46.0301
Person County conducts pre-employment screening on candidates. Job offers are conditional pending the following:
