Course Assistant Internship

Aspen Publishing has always been at the forefront of legal education, as is our exciting new program, JD-Next, which serves as a new law school entrance exam, as well as prep program for Undergrad Pre-law, and a bridge program for accepted 1L students.  As part of JD-NEXT, we offer an online course to help prepare students for the exam and Aspen is offering SPRING/SUMMER 2025 internships to current/rising 2L/3L Law Students to serve as Course Assistants to track students’ progress, provide feedback, answer questions, and encourage engagement. The internship requires 8-10 hours/week, at a rate of $20 per hour.  5 hours of Self-paced training begins April 21st, the eight-week courses begin May 5th and June 2nd with testing on 7/8 and 7/12/25 for the May course and 8/5 and 8/9/25 for the June course. Possible opportunity for Fall/Winter Internship as well. 

TITLE: Course Assistant Internship

REPORTS TO: JD-NEXT Program Director

DEPARTMENT: JD-NEXT

FLSA STATUS: NON-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for providing support to pre-law undergrads or matriculating 1L students enrolled in the JD-Next course by tracking student progress, answering questions, and encouraging engagement. Internship requires 8-10 hours per week.  Intern must be rising 2L/3L Law Student or recent 3L grad.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete the training
  • Record and post a welcome video to the course website
  • Respond to students on group discussion boards
  • Answer student questions via email
  • Maintain open communication with the leadership
  • Hold scheduled office hours
  • Flag repeated questions for an FAQ
  • Identify and collect feedback from students
  • Check students’ participation weekly for your assigned section and check in with students who are falling behind
  • Provide individualized feedback for students on assignments using a rubric and template
  • Attend weekly meetings
  • Draft and revise exam questions
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Rising 2L/3L law student, or recent 3L grad required
  • Ability to record and post videos and use video conferencing such as Zoom or TEAMS
  • Understanding of Contract Law a plus
  • Comfortable supporting students in a large, virtual class environment
  • Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Strong Attention to detail and ability to execute plans on time and with quality
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced and deadline driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
  • Ambition to take on new projects and opportunities as assigned
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Prioritization and multitasking skills
  • Demonstrated ability in working independently and as part of a team

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work on computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to listen and speak carefully while interacting with others
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally
