Student Worker Graphic Designer

Position Summary

The Print Shop is looking to hire a student worker to assist with daily tasks, assist in print production & begin to learn the role of a graphic designer for the shop.

Primary duties include design work and production. You will prepare templated print items for artwork approval and production. Working with faculty, staff, students, and the public to receive approval for all your print jobs before printing. All design work must follow the university’s brand guidelines and pass verification before printing. Production work includes but is not limited to learning to run equipment, preparing materials, monitoring the production process, and ensuring that all printing jobs are completed accurately and on schedule.

Secondary duties include customer service, data entry, assisting in the production completion of print jobs, and various other tasks related to the print shop.

No print shop experience is needed. However, basic graphic design and design programs are a must.

All Print Shop employees should be dependable, show initiative, and have positive personal interactions in a team-based work environment. They will demonstrate respect for state property and exercise care in using materials and equipment assigned to them.

Job Description

  1. Team Participation. Support team members by completing work on time and then looking for additional tasks or ways to offer assistance.
  2. Customer Service. Assist customers with coordinating printing projects and responding to telephone and walk-in orders and inquiries. Assistance includes submitting requests, making decisions about paper, ink, design needs, etc., cooperating with designers, providing estimates when customers require them, and acting as a resource for information about printing, publishing, and brand guidelines for the university.
  3. Data Entry. Accurately document chargebacks, bills, and invoices in accounting platforms.
  4. Artwork Submissions. Process incoming artwork work requests, including verifying brand guidelines for all provided artwork, customizing brand-approved templates for requested jobs, and creating new artwork as requested. All artwork must be client-approved before production.
  5. Production. Support the Print Tech in planning and executing print jobs from start to finish. This includes preparing and organizing materials, setting up equipment, and assisting in the printing process.
  6. Post Production. Cooperatively and helpfully assist in bindery and post-production operations, including, but not limited to, cutting down jobs, folding, scoring, collating, padding, stapling, numbering, drilling, stuffing, decorating apparel, completing wide-format work, and any additional tasks.
  7. Order Completion Pull samples from completed orders, verify quality & consistency of print, package complete jobs, combine with job tickets, confirm all paperwork with job tickets, prepare delivery tickets, and communicate with clients about job completion.

  1. Read all job orders and be knowledgeable of all that is needed to complete each job.
  2. Communicate with faculty, staff, students, and the public courteously and helpfully.
  3. Assist in the timely and accurate completion of all jobs by following job request guidelines, print shop guidelines & due dates.
  4. Performs these and other duties assigned by the supervisor promptly, courteously, and efficiently.

The Print Shop is located on the WTAMU campus across from the Fine Arts Complex. We stay busy throughout the year handling the university's printing needs and requests. We are deadline-driven and strive to maintain job completion within our workflow turnaround times.
