Elementary/High School Director of Operations

About the Role: 

Equality Charter School is currently seeking a strategic and dynamic Director of Operations. Reporting to the District Director of Operations, the Director of Operations will be responsible for all matters of school administration that do not directly relate to instruction or student behavior. The Director of Operations must be highly responsive to the needs of the school Principal.  The Director of Operations will relieve the principal of non-instructional obligations so that s/he can focus almost exclusively on student achievement and the professional development of the teaching staff. This position will take on a variety of operational responsibilities from overseeing student recruitment, pre and post lottery, monitoring of school spending/management of school supplies, facility management, technology management, attendance management and parent communication as well as student and staff safety. The Director of Operations will also supervise a team of operations professionals including an Office Manager and Admin Assistant.  The Director of Operations must work closely with the Custodial Staff and Facilities Manager to ensure the school’s needs are met. The Director will also work closely with the Food Service staff to ensure smooth operations of the food program.

 

Responsibilities of the Director of School Operations will include but are not limited to:  

 

Budget & Finance :

  • Work with the CFO and finance staff to process and manage the school’s  procurement
  • Maintain and track all mail addressed to Team Finance and ensure timely submission to Team Finance for processing 
  • Monitor usage of the school’s supplies 
  • Ensure adherence to the school’s enrollment policy by providing documentation as needed for the annual audit
  • Manage school purchasing process by placing orders with vendors, tracking delivery and maintaining inventory 
     

School Operations:

  • Manage recruitment and enrollment for the site(s) including rolling admissions throughout the year.
  • Each year, prepare the campus for start-up/new school year by ordering furniture, equipment, and classroom supplies as well as ensuring that school services (i.e., student food services, student transportation services, etc) are lined up and ready for the start of the school year.
  • Interview and hire for open Operations Positions
  • Welcome new hires and ensure smooth welcoming and onboarding of new staff
  • Prepare the facility for occupation.
  • Ensure the maintenance of campus facilities by managing custodial personnel and third party contracts for trash removal, recycling, and security 
  • Manage the school’s food and transportation services ie SPED McKinney Vento by coordinating with service  providers and overseeing deliveries 
  • Manage the school’s supply and asset inventory 
  • Ensure the school is in compliance for all state reporting requirements.

School Administration :

  • Ensure the timely implementation of all items on the school’s monthly administrative calendar 
  • Ensure that the school is adhering to all local compliance and reporting requirements regarding school safety COVID safety, bus drills, and fire drills.
  • Provide oversight of the planning and execution of school special events.
  • Support and work closely with administrators to ensure smooth administration of all assessments
  • Ensure the timely production of student report cards
  • Ensure that student records are properly maintained and updated at the school 
  • Serve as the BRT Team Leader for our ES/HS Campus
  • Serve as a Co Leader with Principals at our ES/HS and ensure the building maintains a cooperative relationship through relationship building and scheduling support to both schools

Management and Leadership:

  • Directly supervise the Office Manager, Admin Assistant, and Operations Assistants
  • Actively serve on the school’s leadership team, which also includes the school’s Principal and Department Heads

Skills and Characteristics :

  • Belief in the mission and educational model of Equality Charter School
  • Comfort level with managing waste 
  • Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior  staff, as needed 
  • Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically
  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment,  while also driving toward clarity and solutions 
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and  systems  
  • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a “whatever it takes” disposition
  • Commitment and willingness to support extracurricular activities (ie. parent-teacher conferences, Equality celebrations, etc).

Educational Background and Work Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year institution; Master's Degree preferred
  • Operations management experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial  environment
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams to develop and implement systems and  processes to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of a growing organization
