College Intern, Emergency Management Planner, Homeland Security
POSITION SUMMARY
The City of Pittsburgh Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security (OEMHS) is seeking an intern to provide analytical, technical, and administrative assistance on EM/HS assignments. The intern selected will also have the opportunity to learn about general operating procedures, public service and the workings of City government.
OEMHS coordinates city planning, response, support and recovery efforts before, during and after large-scale events and emergencies. OEMHS is responsible for developing and implementing city-wide programs and projects that promote disaster planning, training, mitigation, response, prevention and recovery for all-hazards. The office also supports and fosters critical infrastructure protection through security and resilience efforts.
NOTE: Pittsburgh OEMHS is no longer associated in a production capacity with the Western Pennsylvania All Hazards Fusion Center (WPAHFC). Interns who have an Intelligence background are still welcome to apply to Pittsburgh OEMHS, but will not be included in the WPAHFC production cycle.

REQUIREMENTS
GENERAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

NOTE: Interns must be available for at least 15 - 20 hours per week during the regular business hours of Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Availability for two eight-hour days per week is the preferred schedule. Interns may be asked to work outside of normal business hours for special events or during a disaster response when the Emergency Operations Center is activated or the Mobile Command Post is deployed.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the work and access to sensitive information involved with this internship, the City of Pittsburgh will conduct a background investigation on all candidates being considered for this position. The background investigation includes but is not limited to criminal background, driver's license, and City of Pittsburgh real estate tax payments. Conviction of a felony or serious misdemeanor is disqualifying unless applicant has been pardoned. Candidates may be disqualified from consideration for this internship based on the results of their background investigation (as it relates to the job for which the applicant is being considered).
QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
- WORK EXPERIENCE: None required for this position.
- EDUCATION/TRAINING: Must be currently enrolled and taking classes in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate program; OR have graduated within the last twelve (12) months. Candidates must possess a GPA of 2.5 or higher to be considered.
- EQUIVALENCY: None permitted for this position.

POSITION DUTIES
- Completes National Incident Management System (NIMS) training and the Professional Development Series through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
- Attends regional emergency management meetings and networks with other state and federal emergency management and homeland security professionals.
- Attends various meetings with governmental partners (DHS, FBI, Pittsburgh Police).
- Prepares for and/or participates in exercises (tabletop, functional, or full-scale).
- Assists with developing/updating traditional print and digital community outreach marketing materials and social media campaigns.
- Analyzes statistical data, enters data into the regional incident management database, performs research and develops reports.
- Coordinates work in conjunction with project timelines.
- May provide general administrative support to staff.
- Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
