HFS Marketing Student Assistant Graphic Designer
Position Summary
The HFS Marketing Student Assistant Graphic Designer serves as a contributing member of the Communications and Marketing team and supports the goals and activities of HFS through collaboration with many team members. Work will include conceptualizing, designing, developing templates, and producing digital and print marketing materials for various HFS units.
This opportunity is ideal for students with an interest in marketing, communications, user experience, design/branding, and/or business. Students will receive authentic experience in a professional environment, including direction and feedback from the Communications and Marketing team.
Responsibilities
Design promotional marketing materials for Housing & Food Services (HFS), including on-campus retail and resident dining restaurants and cafes, markets, catering, Residential Life events and activities; HR recruiting.
Simple photography as needed for campaigns.
Perform related duties as required.
Leverage established templates and brand guides in the University of Washington Canva account.
Qualifications
Current UW Seattle-campus student with interest in communications, business, marketing, social media, and/or graphic design.
Excellent writing, speaking and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines and exercise good judgment in a dynamic environment.
Ability to represent HFS professionally and to communicate comfortably with students, faculty and staff while working.
Ability to function independently and as a team member.
Flexibility and availability to work evenings/weekends as needed to capture events on campus.
A desire to learn, a strong passion for creativity, and a willingness to have fun!
Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite experience–including PowerPoint.
Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Figma, digital cameras and photo editing.
Web design, photography, and social media experience preferred.
Experience developing print files preferred.
A portfolio will be required before an interview is scheduled for this role.
Collaboration Responsibilities
This position will work closely with the entire Communications and Marketing team, including other student employees, and will receive direction from a unit Manager.
Position Complexities
This position will work 0–19.5 hours per week and will work to meet project goals and subsequent deadlines. Additional duties may be assigned for special events that occur within or outside a regular work schedule.
Working Conditions
The work is performed in an open office setting with noise and other distractions, as well as various indoor and outdoor locations on the UW campus.
This position may travel on foot or by vehicle to campus locations with a camera.
This position does not maintain regular office hours at the outset. The work hours will be determined by consultation with the Manager to accommodate the student’s class schedule.
Compensation
$22.31 per hour
Work Schedule
Up to 19.5 hours per week
Spring quarter 2025 (option for Summer and/or Fall quarter 2025 as well)
Flexible schedule, Mon-Fri 8am - 5pm at Terry Hall West Campus
