The State University of New York - Student Assistant for the Office of Grants for Research, Opportunity, and Workforce (GROW)
SUNY Office of Research, Innovation & Economic Development's (ORIED) Grants for Research, Opportunity, and Workforce (GROW) Support Unit provides direct support to all SUNY campuses in identifying and securing grant and contract funding from federal, state, local and other sources to support research and scholarship, with a specific focus on activities that expand economic mobility and create workforce opportunities for New Yorkers.
The GROW Unit Intern will play a critical role in researching funding opportunities and preparing data to support the mission and initiatives of ORIED. This position contributes to cross-functional projects, requiring a candidate that is resourceful, detail oriented, and collaborative.
The internship is only open to currently enrolled SUNY students. We strongly encourage first generation college students to apply. We also strongly encourage students with an interest in STEM topics related to SUNY's research priorities: Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Energy and Sustainability, Microelectronics (Semiconductors), and Quantum Computing to apply. This position will provide experience with working on projects that encourage collaborative research, including experience with pursuing grant funding.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the research and tracking of relevant federal, state, local, and private funding opportunities.
- Assist in the research and tracking of relevant campus information as requested.
- Assist in the preparation of slide decks for meetings, conferences, and other convenings.
- Assist with scheduling internal meetings and booking conference rooms.
- Assist with technical support during remote meetings and webinars.
- Provide administrative support during campus and partner convenings.
- Read faculty proposals and provide feedback as requested.
- Learn basic skills in grant writing, funder relations, and strategic partnership development.
- Learn about emerging trends and data across ORIED's strategic initiatives: Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Climate, Microelectronics, and Quantum Computing.
- Connect with peers, colleagues, and faculty across the SUNY system.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a currently enrolled SUNY student.
- Strong familiarity with the full Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Zoom.
- Strong writing skills.
- A growth mindset and team player who works collaboratively and is willing to give and receive feedback.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Enrollment in programs related to Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Climate Studies, Microelectronics, Quantum Computing, or generally, Business, English, or the humanities.
- Graphic design experience and familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other platforms.
- A 3.0 or better GPA.

- Paid Positions: Undergraduate students $16.00/hour: Graduate students $18.00/hour
- Academic Credit available based on institutional requirements and approvals
- Maximum hours worked for this position is up to 29 hours per week.
