Product Certification Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:  Supports YKK USA in product certification to internal and as well as external customers.  Often interfaces with Federal agencies in regards to imports and authenticity of YKK products.  Must have a strong chemical background in order to understand the various coatings and chemical treatments of products shipped world wide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Verifies counterfeit zippers for US Customs as well as Sales, GMG and customers.
2. Performs Counterfeit Zipper Training to US Customs Personnel.
3. Oversees Restricted Substances in regards to testing, answering inquiries, and performing material content reviews.
4. Oversees OEKO-TEX certifications for Macon and assists NCA affiliates with their OEKO-TEX programs.
5. Oversees all UL Product Certifications for both existing and new products. Responsible for all correspondence with UL personnel.
6. Oversees YKK Macon’s Green Procurement activities.
7. Responsible for maintaining and providing PDG’s and MSDS’s for YKK products as requested.
8. Responsible for providing certification letters to customers in regards to CPSC regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Chemistry; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and write detailed instructions, correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information to supervisors, managers, customers and employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Must be able to apply basic algebra.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
