Parowan High School is seeking a Full Time Dean Of Students/ Instructional Coach beginning July for the 2025-2026 school year. This position will remain open until filled.
The Dean of Students/Instructional Coach will work closely with school administration, school personnel and students to support all applicable parties ranging from grades 7-12. This dual purpose administrator/coach will support learning with an emphasis given to new educators, instruction, technology, and the implementation of school-wide goals. This position will work closely with staff as needed to improve school climate, instructional practices, and aid in the implementation of new programs. This position works directly with administration and teachers in a school providing classroom-based demonstrations, collaborative and one-on-one support, and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development as needed and requested. The focus is on enhancing teachers’ ability to provide instruction that builds students’ sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. This position works with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data, interpret, and use it to guide instructional decisions in the implementation of a 3-Tiered Model. Additional responsibilities include attendance tracking and a schoolwide focus on Positive behavior interventions and support in order to build and maintain a positive, safe school climate. Additionally, this position will assist school administration in supervision of extracurricular activities. Finally, this position will also supports school safety and safety practices.
The essential functions, duties and responsibilities may include the following. - Coaches will need to have a minimum of 5-years classroom experience and effective-highly effective evaluation marks from their principal
- Coaches will need to have or complete the Utah Instructional Coaching Endorsement (Endorsement focuses on Adult learning, Coaching Cycle and Instructional Strategies, as well as leading collaborative teams and Data-driven decision making. It is competency based)
- Coaches will need to attend regular district PLC/Trainings focused on specific needs (i.e., disrupted learning based on data, Canvas, blended learning, instructional strategies, restorative practices, etc.)
- Develop/deepen own content knowledge of coaching, adult learning theory, evidence-based instructional strategies, leading effective teams, and exemplary practices in whole-group and small-group differentiated instruction.
- Extend competencies through active participation in: District Level Professional Learning Opportunities, including personal coaching with district coaches.
- Improve instruction by providing sustained support to classroom teachers through continuous coaching cycles (pre-conference, data collection, reflective conversations); provide professional learning focused on implementing Utah Core Standards with research-based instructional practices using the district programs (In-class modeling, team teaching, shadow teaching, etc.
- Observe teacher instruction and provide feedback.
- Provide the teacher with Tier I and II classroom and student behavior management coaching
- Provide professional learning focused on school goals
- Provides collaborative teams with support in trust and functioning, data-analysis, and instructional planning.
- Participate in faculty meetings and professional development as required.
- Supports school wide efforts for positive behavioral interventions and support
- Creates and implements student behavior and attendance expectations
- Develops and implements conflict resolution strategies
- Assist school administration with supervision of activities (an additional stipend will be provided)
- Understands State, district and school policy and laws affecting the management of student attendance and behaviors
- Supports administration in the adoption/development of a student management program which promotes order; safety and well being; positive, caring relationships; responsibility and accountability; initiative and confidence among students.
- Manage and enforce school behavioral expectations, including attendance and classroom alignment with school-wide goals.
- Confer with students, parents, and teachers regarding student related policies.
- Assist staff with the creation and alignment of classroom student behavioral and attendance expectations and classroom management plans.
- Serve as a resource to staff regarding student management and attendance issues.
- Collaborate with staff, administrators, and parents through the response to the intervention process.
- Assist in the planning, developing, and implementation of student behavior and attendance plans.
- Confer with students and administrators regarding appropriate consequences.
- Openly communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding student behavior and attendance
- Collaborate with the school counselor and personnel to create and maintain research-based behavioral and attendance interventions and train faculty and staff in those interventions.
- Manage the documentation of student behavior and attendance through the student management system
- Attend appropriate meetings regarding student growth and success (IEP and 504 case conferences, parent meetings, expulsion hearings, etc).
- Assist in the maintenance of the crisis management plan and school safety requirements.
- Compile, analyze, and share student discipline and attendance data regularly, and use that data to make decisions.
- Plan, organize and manage time and resources
- Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
- Be a positive role model.
- Promote, develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with parents, staff members, students, district office staff and other agencies.
- Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
- Regular, reliable, predictable attendance and job performance is required
- Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction (e.g., Swivl, Google Forms, etc.).
- Is also responsible for safety and school-wide safety practices.
