Position Type: Federal Work Study And Non Work Study

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • 3 to 4 full-time (we will consider part-time depending on the situation), semester long Emerging Designer positions available in the Detroit Mercy School of Architecture and Community Development's Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC).
  • The positions start May 5, 2025 and end August 8, 2025.
  • The positions are full-time - 40 hours per week (we will consider part-time depending on the situation)
  • A few projects Emerging Designers will be working on include engagement and conceptual design with grassroots organizations, community engagement and land use planning in collaboration with a consultant team for a City of Detroit Planning and Development Department project, and an initiative in collaboration with the College of Engineering and Science funded by the Department of Energy to improve energy efficiency in nonprofit buildings.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and portfolio and/or work samples to Christina Heximer at heximech@udmercy.edu no later than 5:00 PM on Monday, March 17, 2025.
  • All international students including VABE students without a U.S. social security number should send their application materials as soon as possible due to the extended period of time needed to apply for and receive a social security number.
  • The entire process can take up to 3 months, and all Emerging Designers must have a social security number before starting work.

  • The Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC) is a multidisciplinary, nonprofit design center located in the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Architecture and Community Development. DCDC exists to bring high-quality and community-engaged design to all neighborhoods in Detroit. We do this by engaging, educating and promoting equity in design processes and outcomes.
