Business Intelligence Analyst - 608295

Special Information

This position is open to multiple work modalities including in person at the Flagstaff Mountain campus, or as a hybrid/remote position within the state of Arizona, with or without accommodation.

Job Description

This position is essential to helping Academic Affairs make data-informed decisions, prioritize student outreach with strategic analytic data, and efficiently scale effective initiatives. Alongside operational analytics, assessment and reporting needs, this role will support divisional leadership business analytic exercises that evaluate the effectiveness of efforts and identify opportunities to maximize impact. The sophistication of this work requires both technical and analytical skills.

Business Intelligence Analyst

Data Extraction and Analysis - 70%

  • Gather and analyze key data elements to inform business processes.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of appropriate handling of university business intelligence data.
  • Compiling information for key stakeholders and provide recommendations for change through data analysis.

Data-Informed Decision Making - 20%

  • Works with team to promote a culture of evidence through a commitment to data-informed decision making that informs current and future efforts.
  • Collect, extract and analyze appropriate data sources through query or other method to inform or define work.
  • Utilize both quantitative and qualitative data sources and valid assessment tactics to make meaning.
  • Understand and utilize descriptive and more sophisticated statistical and visualization techniques.
  • Collaborate with team and analyze complex data sets to identify patterns, interpret them, hypothesize about root causes, and suggest actions.

Communication - 5%

  • Distill important conclusions and recommendations in writing to facilitate broad understanding throughout team.
  • Collaborate with team to ensure that data sources, practices, and learnings are documented and transparent to interested parties.

Other - 5%

Business Intelligence Analyst, Intermediate

Data Extraction and Analysis - 60%

  • Gather and analyze key data elements to inform business processes.
  • Produce reports, queries, data representations based on strategic questions/strategic initiatives.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of appropriate handling of university business intelligence data.
  • Interpret information for key stakeholders and provide recommendations for change through data analysis.

Data-Informed Decision Making - 30%

  • Promote a culture of evidence through a commitment to data-informed decision making that informs current and future efforts.
  • Collect, extract and analyze appropriate data sources through query or other method to inform or define work.
  • Utilize both quantitative and qualitative data sources and valid assessment tactics to make meaning.

Minimum Qualifications

Business Intelligence Analyst

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or related field.
  • 1-2 years of accounting or business experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Business Intelligence Analyst, Intermediate

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of accounting or business experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience with data extraction and interpretation.
  • Experience with data sources in an educational context, with SQL or other query language extraction.
  • Experience with assessment practices.
  • 5-10 years of related experience

  • Knowledge of financial analysis/reporting in higher education.

  • Data analysis skills.

Salary

Business Intelligence Analyst

Anticipated salary range is $51,085 - $63,856.  Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Business Intelligence Analyst, Intermediate

Anticipated salary range is $58,882 - $73,434.  Annual salary commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and related experience.
