Description

The R&D Technician supports the synthesis of new polyester polyol technology or the improvement of existing products as well as synthesis of COIM commercial polyols to meet new and current customer needs/requests, when necessary. This candidate is expected to demonstrate high initiative to show progress and meet objectives and goals on a timely manner. In addition, the candidate must be adaptable to rapidly changing needs and priorities and demonstrate good judgment in executing delicate tasks. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a team of individuals with diverse background.  All tasks must be executed at the highest level of safety standards. The R&D Technician is expected to display professional appearance, behavior, and attitude at all times.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Willingness to work an overnight shift (6pm - 2am or similar)
  • Assists the R&D Manager or Applications manager in developing new products or modifying existing products and services for commercial applications based on customer, market, or technology needs both independently and within teams.
  • Performs hands-on laboratory experiments, including synthesis of new polyester technology and applications of the new polyester technology in urethane applications
  • Analyzes data appropriately including generating graphical representations, applying mathematical concepts, modeling, and relevant statistical analysis
  • Documents pertinent findings in Laboratory notebook, issue of Technical Reports when necessary.
  • Proactively communicates results and interpretations of data in a clear and concise manner
  • Interfaces with sales, manufacturing, and technical service personnel to support the existing and new business.
  • Conforms to the strict confidentiality policies of the company, as well as proper handling and an acute awareness of internal and external intellectual properties.
  • Participates in all safety related activities and meetings.
  • Performs above mentioned responsibilities safely, ethically and in compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Maintains a safe work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education/Experience, SKILLSET

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or associated field is required.
  • Must be well versed in the efficient use of MS Office application.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as paying attention to details.
  • Must be comfortable working independently.
  • Must have familiarity with basic hand tools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Wear personal protective or safety equipment (PPE) such as a respirator as needed
  • Walking between departments, using stairs and climbing ladders
  • Bending and lifting up to 50 lbs manually and unassisted
  • Ability to effectively manage working alone
