Internship with the Bureau of Communications

The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is now accepting applications for our paid summer internship program for college students. Treasury is offering an internship for the Summer of 2025 to work with the Bureau of Communications. The bureau is responsible for  is responsible for keeping the public informed about Treasury activities, programs and policies through the use of various mediums. Candidate must be a self-starter, able to work well independently and take initiative.

The Pennsylvania Treasury Department is an independent agency led by the elected State Treasurer and one of the largest state treasuries in the country, serving as custodian of more than $150 billion. Treasury plays a critical role in state government operations, acting as the custodian, investor, and disburser of funds for nearly all state agencies. Treasury also offers a wide range of programs and services to Pennsylvania families, including the PA 529 College and Career Savings Program; the PA ABLE Savings Program for people with disabilities; and our work to return more than $4 billion of Unclaimed Property to its rightful owners.

Offering a wide variety of internship assignments, Treasury’s internship program affords college students a chance to gain valuable experience in various aspects of public finance and policy. Our program provides interns with hands-on learning opportunities to further develop their skills. Working alongside Treasury management and staff allows interns networking opportunities and the ability to contribute to something greater than themselves – helping to keep the wheels of state government in motion and providing valuable services to Pennsylvania families.

INTERNSHIP: The intern will be working closely with Treasury’s Bureau of Communications. In doing so, you will have an opportunity to be involved in drafting press advisories, press releases, briefing memos, pulling news clips and developing evergreen social media content. Additional research projects may be assigned for a web-based project.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Student who has completed at least 60 college credits at the time of the internship or is a rising Junior or Senior majoring in Communications, Broadcasting or Political Science with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Location: This position is located at the Finance Building in Harrisburg. This position may be eligible for part time telework which is a minimum of three days a week in the office. Management may discontinue the telework arrangement at anytime, for any reason. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. The location where you perform your telework must be located within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
