Research Engineer

Research Engineer

Summary: 
A Research Engineer will work on the development of new products to meet the needs of internal and external customers. This requires a combination of laboratory and engineering skills along with project management capabilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
Duties may include the following. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary to support quality goals and objectives.

• Work with customers to obtain quotes for new product development or CFD modeling tasks 
• Define laboratory configuration required for new product development.
• Measurement and verification of laboratory parameters (airflows, temperatures, etc.).
• Install and run data acquisition equipment. 
• Understand and perform required test standards (UL 710, UL710B, UL710C, ASTM F1704, etc.).
• Write reports containing the test results
• Coordinate with global Research and Development counterparts for product harmonization opportunities where applicable. 
Project Management Responsibilities 
• Meet with the new product leadership team to define the project criteria and add the project to the MS Teams Project Plan and/or Sharepoint Action Plan along with all supporting information.
• Prepare a project plan.
• Identify features on new products which may be novel and patentable. 
• Manage the day-to-day project status which may consist of:
     ▪ Planning and delegating tasks
     ▪ Training people where required
     ▪ Seeing they meet the required deadlines and deliverable
     ▪ Update the Action Plan and Weekly Report on a weekly basis.
     ▪ Hold regular review meetings with the new product leadership team to assess results, costs, goals, etc.
• Prepare a final report containing a description of the project, test methods used, results obtained and future suggestions.
• Prepare presentations on the project results for customers and sales personnel.
• Have a project rating session with the new product leadership team.

Education and/or Experience 
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical field (i.e. Electrical or Mechanical Engineering) with experience in data acquisition, airflow measurements and laboratory setups

Language Skills 
• Ability to read and speak English
• Possess both written and oral communication skills appropriate to a workplace environment
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization 

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as testing and safety standards, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals 

Mathematical Skills 
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume 
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry 

Other Skills 
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists 
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Ability to use AutoCAD, Solid Works, or other design tools to manufacture prototype products
• Ability to use Microsoft office software including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
• Ability to use data acquisition equipment to control and monitor process variables
• Develop Sequence of Operations for new products, coordinate with team members in controls algorithm development
