Overview

The Public Health Internship is an opportunity for students and emerging professionals to gain hands-on experience in mental health education, leadership development, and community engagement. This internship is part of the Titan of Life Project, a program inspired by Melvin L. Burks' leadership legacy, integrating mental health awareness with purpose-driven leadership.

This internship also integrates the Voice Up Theory for Learning which begins all teaching and learning by first connecting to your purpose.

Interns will work remotely and flexibly to support mental health advocacy initiatives, develop educational materials, and help integrate storytelling-based learning into leadership development programs.

Key Responsibilities

Mental Health Education & Advocacy

Develop and implement age-appropriate mental health education materials.

Apply the Voice Up Theory for Learning to help participants connect leadership skills with mental health awareness.

Facilitate discussions and activities that reduce mental health stigma and promote well-being.

Design interactive experiences that enhance participants' understanding of mental health concepts.


Program Development & Integration

Assist in coordinating leadership incubator programs (1-Week Immersion, 2-Week Development, 4-Week Transformation).

Help integrate mental health principles into the Purpose Fellowship superhero curriculum, aligning with themes such as empathy, collaboration, and patience.

Support the development of community-based trust-building initiatives to help participants overcome self-doubt and mental health challenges.


Community Engagement & Evaluation

Partner with mentors and community organizations to expand mental health support networks.

Collect and analyze feedback to evaluate the program’s impact on participants.

Assist in developing resources for families and educators to facilitate mental health conversations.

Document participant success stories to demonstrate real-world impact.


Internship Tracks & Benefits

Flexible Participation Options

Interns can choose from the following tracks, with opportunities for growth into a paid stipend position:

1. Volunteer Track: Gain experience and build a network while making a meaningful impact.


2. Academic Credit: Earn internship credit while engaging in real-world public health initiatives.


3. Paid Fellowship: Selected candidates with strong project proposals may receive a stipend ($500-$750/month) for a 3-4 month commitment.

 

Additional Benefits

Remote & Flexible: Work from anywhere with a 5-10 hour weekly commitment.

Career Advancement Opportunities: Potential to progress to an independent contractor role ($20-$30/hour for up to 15 hours weekly).


Qualifications

Education & Experience

Pursuing or holding a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.

Experience in mental health education, community outreach, or leadership development is preferred.

Strong communication and facilitation skills, especially in discussing mental health topics.


Skills & Personal Qualities

Passion for mental health advocacy and reducing stigma.

Strong writing and curriculum development skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual setting.

Comfort with digital learning platforms and virtual engagement tools.

Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
