Nonprofit Farming Summer Internship

Overview of Organization: Boise Vertical Farm is a non-profit that provides Community Service hours and Employment Resources to people in recovery from drugs and alcohol. 

Overview of Intern’s Project 

Boise Vertical Farm is developing our lettuce operation. We sell locally grown lettuce mixes to Boise Co-op stores and to local restaurants. We are working to increase our growing capacity and sales. In this 3 week internship we will teach hands-on development of a product line (lettuce) from planting to harvest. The goal will be to increase our lettuce volume with hands-on help.

Mentor Bios 

Interns will work with both Jeff Middleton and Amy Hinkel. Jeff and Amy work at 2 of the BVF farming operations. They are both experienced farmers. Amy’s farm is in Southwest Boise and Jeff works at the farm in Northwest Boise. Amy works as a massage therapist and is a former semi-pro basketball player. Jeff is a former Pharmacist and has an MBA. He has experience as an entrepreneur and business manager. Jeff and Amy have first hand experience with addiction and are dedicated to help people to break the cycle of addiction.
 

Additional Requirements: Ability to work! This internship is about working in the soil and getting your hands dirty. We will teach planting, care, harvesting, packaging and distribution. In this position you will be a worker bee. Come prepared to work hard.
 

Location requirements: In Person (Amy’s Farm in Southwest Boise and with Jeff in Northwest Boise)
