ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Specific Summary
The Project Manager position at the City of Tucson’s Planning and Development Services Department acts as a communicator and coordinator of land use planning, building safety, and permitting projects. This position works with the public and permit applicants on complex, high-profile, and large-scale projects to ensure a seamless development process. The Project Manager also leads initiatives improving development outcomes, coordinating projects across city departments, and advancing city goals.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Zoning Administrator. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manages special projects and initiatives, such as complex building and development projects, zoning code updates, or planning initiatives.
Serves as the primary point of contact on assigned projects, collaborates with intra and inter-departmental personnel, and assigns project work. Conducts meetings with project stakeholders to address questions and propose solutions regarding projects.
Develops project goals and objectives, evaluates project success and regulatory compliance, and prepares electronic documents and presentations.
Tracks project progress by forecasting timelines and project parameters, reviewing plans and documents, deploying resources, and preparing reports and correspondence. Reviews policies and procedures, provides advice and conducts research and analysis to support projects.
Serves as expert on required processes and familiarity with plan review procedures.
Ensures the successful outcome of initiatives by helping in the implementation of programs.
Visits sites periodically to conduct site analysis for proposed or ongoing development.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
Three (3) years of directly related work experience.
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications:
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in city planning, public policy, civil engineering, or closely related field.
Project manager certification.
