Job Description:
Position Title: Theater Teaching Artist
Reports To: Program Director
Position Overview:
The Theater Teaching Artist will design, implement, and lead engaging theater workshops and classes for students of various age groups and skill levels. This role involves fostering creativity, confidence, and collaboration while introducing students to acting, movement, improvisation, and storytelling. The Teaching Artist will inspire a love for the performing arts and contribute to the broader mission of the organization by nurturing artistic expression and community involvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum Development:
Teach foundational and advanced theater techniques, including acting, voice, movement, and improvisation.
Develop and deliver age-appropriate lesson plans tailored to different student groups.
Introduce students to various theatrical styles, history, and performance techniques.
Evaluate students' progress in technical skills, creative expression, and performance quality.
Student Support and Engagement:
Use inclusive and adaptive teaching strategies to support diverse learning needs.
Provide constructive feedback to students to enhance their confidence and skills.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators about student progress.
Create a positive and collaborative classroom environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
Production Coordination and Performance Direction:
Direct and facilitate student performances, showcases, or final presentations.
Collaborate with students and staff to design and stage theatrical productions.
Organize performance opportunities both within the school and in the broader community.
Share a passion for theater with students, inspiring their enthusiasm and commitment.
Additional Duties:
Teach the history, theory, and technical aspects of theater, including script analysis and stage presence.
Ensure the safety and maintenance of performance and rehearsal spaces, props, and costumes.
Participate in school events and contribute to community outreach initiatives.
Support other programming and duties as assigned.
