The Tennessee Department of Transportation is currently hiring student interns for the Region 3 Construction offices located in Columbia, Clarksville, and McEwen TN. The construction interns will become familiar with project documents, plans, specifications, and standard drawings. The interns will assist & shadow TDOT/CEI personnel in the inspection of daily construction activities including material testing and measuring of installed quantities. They will also assist the ARE/TEAM LEAD and other staff in gathering information for reviewing monthly progress reports, schedule updates, and monthly progress estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Assist TDOT technical staff in the administering of construction contracts and project inspection.
  • Perform supervised project inspection, data entry, and quantity measurement.
  • Assist with compiling data, quantities, test reports, T2s and certs for a monthly project estimate.
  • Participate in meetings and site visits.
  • Study the contract plans, the specifications, standard drawings, special provisions, and any other contract related documents so they are prepared to oversee construction in the field.
  • Complete safety training for construction projects.

Qualifications

  • Engineering discipline, or construction management/materials major required.
  • Graduate Student, Junior, or Senior Class Status required as of May 2025 OR recent Graduate as of Spring 2024.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles and/or construction management.
  • Basic computer skills.
